Who we are
BaleCast (balecast.com) is a weather guidance service for forage making, operated from Scotland, United Kingdom. For data protection purposes the data controller is Pammy Stevenson Products Ltd, contactable at support@balecast.com.
What we collect and why
- Email address — to sign you in (one-time codes) and to send the alerts you signed up for.
- Farm and field locations — coordinates you provide, used to fetch weather forecasts for those points and detect weather windows.
- Field and activity records — the diary entries you choose to keep (cuts, bales, grazing, treatments and similar).
- Weather station readings — if you link a station, its measurements are collected and stored against your farm.
- Push subscriptions — a per-device token if you enable notifications, used only to deliver alerts to that device.
We do not run advertising, we do not sell your data, and we collect no analytics beyond what the services below require to operate.
Where it lives (our processors)
- Supabase — database and authentication, hosted in London (UK).
- Vercel — hosts the web application.
- Resend — delivers our emails.
- Forecast providers (Open-Meteo, Met Office and similar) — receive farm coordinates only, never your identity, so we can fetch forecasts.
- Browser push services (operated by your browser vendor) — deliver notifications you've enabled.
Legal basis
We process your data to provide the service you signed up for (contract), and in the case of anonymised, aggregated analysis to improve forecast accuracy, on the basis of legitimate interests. Such aggregates never identify you or your holdings.
Retention
Your data is kept while your account is active. Weather and forecast history for your farms is retained long-term because seasonal comparison is part of the service's value. Delete your account and all of it goes with it.
Your rights
You can request a copy of your data, correction, or complete deletion of your account and everything attached to it by emailing support@balecast.com. You also have the right to complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk) if you believe we've mishandled your data.
Cookies
We use only the cookies strictly necessary to keep you signed in. No advertising or tracking cookies — which is why there's no cookie banner.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we'll say so in the app or by email. The latest version always lives at balecast.com/privacy.
